Large pores seem to be inherited. They can increase as we age, and they tend to cluster around the nose and central part of the face. In general, pores are openings for oil glandsand hair follicles. There is currently no pennanent way to eliminate them, but there are many ways to help reduce them.

Large pores are simply a genetic problem, but you can temporarily reduce large pores by clearing away dirt and debris. Large pores are often an indication of oily skin.

Medical treatment and mdications to cure large pores

Over-the-counter toners and astringents can help dry the skin, and remove excessoils from pores. Glycolic and salicylic acids, in over-the-counter creams and in more potent chemical peels, help reduce large pores. Prescription creams like Renova and Retin-A are also helpful.

Tips on reducing facial large pores

  • Stop using harsh toners or astringents on the affected areas. Using these products may have a very temporary 'tightening' effect on pores, but it's extremely short-lived. In fact, harsh astringents actually encourage oil glands to over-produce oil, leading to an increase in the size of pores.
  • There is no way to close your pores permanently. However, applying toner regularly helps tighten them temporarily. Also, splash your face with ice cold water everyday to tighten pores. Make sure you keep your face clean, as you may be prone to blackheads.
  • Avoid putting moisturiser on the area as the skin produces quite enough moisture and oil on its own and doesn't need more.

Makeup tips to hide the appearance of large pores

  • Heavy foundations will draw attention to your large pores. So, stay with a sheer, light and oil free foundation.
  • Apply foundation, concealer, powder and blusher in a downward motion, otherwise you'll accentuate pores by pushing colour up and into them.
