Dos and Don’ts of Eczema


Millions of people are suffering from eczema, and many of them are trying to find relief for their skin condition. Eczema can actually be cured easily but they require to be maintained once it has started. When the cycle of scratching or itching begins, the skin disorder becomes worse. There are some skin conditions, however, that can also fall under the eczema category.
Due to the uncomfortable condition a person may be suffering from, there are also ways on how to prevent it.

Dos of Eczema

Moisturize

Moisturize your skin often using some recommended lotions or creams such as Cetaphil, Eucerin, and Aveeno. Always keep your lotion in handy by bringing it in your purse all the time especially if your eczema is in your hands.

Use Gentle Soap

When you take a shower, use gentle soap and cool water. Apply moisturizer a few minutes after taking a shower. This keeps your skin free from dryness which will be helpful for you to stop the symptoms of eczema to occur.

Other dos of eczema:

  1. While you are doing the dishes, you can wear gloves to keep your hands out of the water.
  2. Buy a humidifier for your house and place it in your bedroom.
  3. Consume plenty of water to keep yourself moisturized from within.
  4. Control the scratching at night by wearing gloves on your hands, or you can also take Benadryl to keep yourself from itch.

Don’ts of Eczema

  1. Take a hot bath or shower.
  2. Bathe often in winter.
  3. Smoke. Smoking triggers eczema especially on your hands and face as it causes the dryness on your skin.
  4. Fragrances. Never expose yourself on fragrances found in soap or detergent.
  5. Be exposed to cold or hot air. If you are, always put on moisturizer. You also have to always have your nails short. Make certain that your hands are always clean so your condition will not get worse due to scratching.

These are some of the things that you can do and avoid to fight your eczema. If you want to, you can also try natural sources to treat your eczema. There are natural ingredients from nature that you can look for when your buy your lotions, creams, or moisturizers in the pharmacy. Here are some of them:

  1. Shea Butter. It is a natural skin moisturizer with vitamins to alleviate the signs and symptoms of eczema.
  2. Neem oil. It is another natural ingredient from nature that can cure eczema. Add this on your bath as well as salt.
  3. Black soap. It is ideally used to cleanse your skin with eczema.
  4. Dead Sea salt. Bathe your skin in Dead Sea salt which helps for skin rejuvenation.

Keep your eczema under control by following above Dos and Don’ts of Eczema. Although it is hard to do so due to the cold air, allergens, and other triggers, it is better to keep your skin healthy without eczema.

Since we recognize that eczema is an uncomfortable and unsightly condition, it will be helpful to ask your doctor about it in order to avoid the hassles caused by eczema. In addition, you can also control your eczema if your will always moisturize your skin. If you will follow these tips but find no relief, do see your doctor.
