What are the Side Effects of Eczema Treatment?

These steroid-based corticosteroids are actually related to hormones produced naturally in the body that are often needed for the reduction of the body’s inflammatory reaction. During the middle of the 1950’s, the usages of corticosteroids were prevalent as treatment for eczema.

Forms of Corticosteroids

Some types of corticosteroids are known to alleviate the signs and symptoms of eczema, and they can be in the form of topical creams which are often compatible for the skin such as lotions, ointments, foams, and creams.

These are the types that are often given to sufferers with mild symptoms, and they are used with moderate to mild inflammations of the skin with eczema. For those severe cases, there are oral corticosteroids given by doctors to their patients. However, these are the types given as last resort, but as much as possible, it is best to avoid them since they can cause side effects of eczema treatment.

Strong corticosteroids are not given to pregnant mothers since most studies have shown them to give worse side effects of eczema treatment such as cleft palate and cleft lip.

Sufferers are hesitant to use heavy corticosteroids since they have increased risk of side effects due to the treatment. On the other hand, the apprehension can be lessened if you work together with an experienced doctor in treating eczema. Glaucoma - It results from the topical application of corticosteroid around or near your eyes as well as that medication used systemically.
Osteoporosis - It is bone density loss among those female patients who are typically undergoing a long-term medication.

Along with these side effects are acne, rashes, infections, stretch marks, and blood vessels dilatation which are often results of topical creams. These are known side effects of eczema treatment which can be avoided by working with an experienced doctor who have worked with an eczema sufferer with a worse case.
