Makeup Tips on Applying Liquid Foundation - How to apply foundation?

When you do foundation make sure that you pay attention to getting good coverage and blending. Give special attention to the hairline areas, right in front of the ears and the throat also.

Blend all edges carefully especially the throat where the foundation stops. And don't forget the forehead and lips. If you get some foundation on your eyebrows don't worry, we'll fix eyebrows next.

In fact if you intend to arch your eyebrows a little and/or you want your lips to appear larger or smaller then be sure to apply foundation to one or both of these areas.

Applying a perfect foundation

Learning how to apply a foundation base properly is the key to your whole make-up look. Follow these steps for a smooth and flawless complexion.

  1. Apply moisturizer 5 minutes before start your make-up. All bases will go on much more smoothly if your skin is well hydrated. Tissue off any excess - while hydrated skin is good for foundation, greasy skin will make it slip and slide.
  2. remember less is more, so don't apply big swathes; instead puta few dits around your face. Now, using your fingers or a foundation sponge, blend those dots together.
Make sure you blend well around your hairline and jawline. If you have choosen the right shade there should not be a join, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
  3. Once the foundation has setting into the skin, check if there are any obvious under-eye shadows or blemishes showing through.
If there are, use concealer on these. If you want a matt finish, apply loose powder witha brush or for heavier coverage press it into the skin with a soft puff.

Choosing your foundation

The foundation market today is saturated with many types and brands of foundations. At the cosmetics counter you are confronted with an array of choices - liquid, cream, oil- free, powder, allergy tested, cake, stick, stay-on, hypoallergenic, cream to powder, non-comedogenic and camouflage foundations.
It is indeed quite a mind-blowing experience, especially if you are a first time buyer.

If your water-based foundation dries out, add a few drops of alcohol-free toner and shake to get rid of clumps. A bit of toner will also make an oil-based foundation sheerer and less oily.

When you are finished applying the foundation, don't touch it! Don't powder it! Don't do anything with it for 5 to 10 minutes. It needs to set. This is what I call the primary set stage.
This primary set stage seems to give a more even finished look. I usually start dressing (except for my top if it is pullover) during this "foundation set" period.

Smooth it over your face and gently blend in upward, outward motions, making sure not to forget the side of your nose, under your eyebrows, along the jawline, blending an inch below the jawline and chin.
