Traditional Saunas

Traditional Saunas can be custom built into homes with many options. Traditional saunas are a high heat, low humidity environment. Temperatures range between 80-90°C and water is splashed over the heater rocks to create a blast of hypersteam and intensify the feeling of heat. For those who enjoy this experience, there is nothing in the world quite like it.

Traditional Sauna is a wooden building where bathers sit on benches splashing water on hot stones of the stove and gently beating themselves with leafy birch whisks. With the advent of electicity came the convienience of electical heaters. The latest development in the sauna world is the infrared sauna. Shunned by the purists, infra red saunas are becoming quite popular.

Infrared Saunas vs Traditional Saunas

Traditional and infrared saunas share most of the same health benefits, but the differences in the way they provide their respective heat therapies should be considered. The presence of steam within a traditional sauna is considered by some to be important to improving sinus and respiratory function.

  • There is absolutely no difference in the amount of maintenance required
  • Heating times are something you may want to consider when deciding between a traditional and infrared sauna. The emitters in an infrared sauna take around 10 minutes to warm up, while a traditional sauna takes about 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Traditional saunas are most popularly purchased as do-it yourself kits, which take a few days to install. While Infrared saunas come primarily as pre-fabricated panels that snap or screw together.
  • An infrared sauna operates between 85°F and 150°F, whereas a traditional sauna operates between 180°F and 220 °F.
  • So while it is true that traditional cost more, in either case costs are measured in pennies, not dollars. Many sauna manufacturers and retailers give acclaim to the infrared sauna because it uses significantly less power than a traditional sauna, thus saving money in energy costs. Although this is true, the average cost per use of an infrared sauna is about 5-10 cents, versus 25-35 cent per use of a traditional sauna, these numbers depending on the size of the sauna and the duration of each use.
  • Infrared saunas provide a very enjoyable experience, but are different from a traditional sauna. If you know and love traditional saunas, you should seek out information beyond the claims of infrared vendors.

So settle into a Traditional Sauna and let its warmth go to work. Just feel those muscles relax and the aches and tension fade away. Calories are burned and your skin feels renewed, you breathe clearly and deeply. Once again, body and soul are refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Fitness Tip

Chiropractic treatment is particularly successful at relieving back pain. Special manipulative techniques bring the back and neck vertebrae into alignment.

Beauty Tip

Nails are formed from keratin, the tough protein that also makes up hair and skin. They grow from the matrix, which lies beneath a fold of skin (the cuticle). The growing nail slides forward over the nail-bed, an area rich in blood vessels.
