Back pain - Causes, Therapy, Relief Products and Natural Treatment of Back pain
The spine is made up of approximately 30 vertebrae and between each pair there is a cartilaginous disc. The discs and vertebrae are held together with ligaments, and most causes of mild back pain occur because of twisting or stretching of these structures. Back pain is very common in both men and woman and it can be caused by various factors. Poor posture and hence muscle tension give rise to ninety percent of cases of back pain. This results from poor sitting on chairs that do not give sufficient support and is a common problem at work, home or in the car. It is also caused by bending or lifting incorrectly or by a repetitive strain. There may be disorders affecting the discs between the bones, the most common being a 'slipped disc' in which it ruptures or moves out slightly from between the vertebrae. Causes of Back painThis commonly occurs if a person bends or twists suddenly and can be very painful. Emotional stress, kidney infection, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and pelvic prolapse can all be a cause of back pain. Obesity strains the back and can lead to discomfort, and women are particularly prone to back problems from gynaecological causes. Conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, infection of the fallopian tubes, endometriosis, pregnancy and labor may produce severe back pain. It may be eased by physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture or shiatsu (a form of massage) and by treatment of the underlying cause. Prevention of back painPreventive methods, include correct lifting, good posture and avoidance of actions that cause strain.
