What Yoga Mats Are Best You (Choose Wisely)

If you are a beginner with Yoga, you might be probably thinking of investing in a few good tools that can help you get started. One of the tools you are required to have are Yoga mats. They are commonly found online in many shops supplying people with Yoga tool and accessories such as clothing, mats and other accessories. Online, you will find numerous shops to choose from, especially if you’re going to type in “Yoga mats.”

You must remember in your search, however, that you have to know what you’re looking for depending on your budget. Be certain that Yoga mats should not be made of chemicals, and are not made of jutes, too, if you want a long lasting mat.

Plastic Mats?

Many beginners often mistaken the cheapest mat is the worthiest of all, and therefore, settle for one as their first Yoga mats. If you desire to perform Yoga for a long time, or have it become part of your routine, stay away from mats made of cheap plastic materials.

Most of them are thin and are not providing the right amount of cushioning you will need. Aside from that, they really smell like chemicals, so they are not advisable for good health. These mats are typically made of Phthalates, a chemical that cause kidney and lung problems on rats. It releases harmful chemicals when they are heated. Also, if you are concerned about nature, stay away from Phthalates mats altogether.

Pilates Mats?

Pilates’ mats are thicker than Yoga mats, because Pilates need you to stay for longer hours on the floor than in Yoga. These mats will be more advantageous for your hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, and spine, saving you from injuries. It will be best to have a Pilates’ mat if you do both Yoga and Pilates.

Jute or Cork Mats?

Both of them are environmental friendly compare to plastic mats, but they have their disadvantages, too. They are commonly made from plants, absorbing sweat when you do Yoga. This will combine with your well-worked out body, as well as it will leave smell on your mat. Over time, they also get weaker and fall apart as other brands, but not like a tissue paper of course.

Rubber Yoga Mats?

This is a well-recommend type of Yoga mats since it is both money-saving and eco-friendly. They are known to be the toughest and yet cheap mats. Just make sure that your rubber mat doesn’t come from synthetic rubber. It is made from a chemically produced rubber material, and is know to be detrimental for your health, too, just like the first one. Natural rubber mats, however, might be an issue if you have allergies. Now if you can spend more, there are also rubber mats that are free from latex or phthalate. They will prove to be a worthy investment in the long run since they will not give you allergies and keep you away from harmful chemicals.

These are some types of Yoga mats that can help you get started with your practice. Choose the right one for you, and consider the advantages and disadvantages of each one of them.
