What are the Types of Yoga?

     

In the Western world, Yoga has becoming more popular and has been gaining followers wishing to include holistic approach of treatment for their lives. Yoga is said to be a very good way to improve one’s physical and mental health. In fact, there is an increase in the number of Yoga classes and a plethora of different kinds of Yoga. Some forms of it include Hatha Yoga, Astanga Yoga, Iyengar, Power Yoga and Bikram Yoga, along with other kinds. With the many types of Yoga, it may be hard to distinguish which one is right for you.

In this article we are going to enumerate the kinds of Yoga and their differences among each other. We are going to understand the most famous types and which type may be right for you.

The Hatha Yoga

Let us first determine how the word Hatha started. In India, the word “Ha” means sun and “tha” is moon. This Yoga is the slow paced type and known as the gentle type of it. This is the best type to start with if you are a beginner. If you are totally new to Yoga, and want to give it a try, engage yourself in Hatha Yoga since it will not cause you stress and muscle pain. Like all other types of Yoga, you can depend on Hatha Yoga to help you heal you mind, body and spirit.

The Intensity of Ashtanga Yoga

It is the Yoga type that you can practice on a daily basis, and basically means 8 limbs in Sanskrit. It is a fast moving and more intense than the Hatha Yoga. This practices the progressive sequences of the asanas that is synchronized with breathing. This type of Yoga can be physically demanding, and not suitable for beginners. You will constantly transform from one asana to another. You will get to improve your strength and stamina.

The Breathing Synchronization in Vinyasa Yoga

This implements synchronized breathing and a fast paced Yoga, with focus on breathing. It is a practice the usually start with the sun salutations then moves on to the more intense stretching. Each movement is balanced by a counter pose.

The Alignment of the Iyengar Yoga

This is the Yoga practice that focuses on the methods taught by BKS Igengar and is based on the right alignment of your body. It will teach you on hoe to hold every pose for a certain period of time other than moving from one pose to another. It is the type of Yoga utilizes different props like straps and blocks to help you align your body for every pose.

The Power of Power Yoga

This is the Western version of Yoga that has been practiced in America and is based from the teachings of Astanga Yoga. It may not necessarily be same poses as people do in the Astanga Yoga, but it includes some of the poses with starting and stopping.
