Hair setting preparations for all hair types

Hair preparations are needed to aid styling of your hair. This helps in easy handling of hair, especially those which tend to fly and are highly unmanageable. Try either of undermentioned preparations;

Bay-rum hair setting preparation

Bay leaves                                                 500 gm
Rum                                                           500 ml
Water                                                          500 ml

Mix first two let the mixture stand for 10-15 days. Strain and add the water. Pour it in an airtight bottle and use when required. But this mixture should be kept under refrigeration.

Gum tragacanth hair setting preparation

Gum tragacanth                                                           15 gm
Alcohol                                                                        20 ml
Castor oil                                                                     2 tbsp
Glycerine                                                                      1tbsp
 Water                                                                          250 ml
Perfume                                                                        as required

Dissolve the gum I alcohol. Stir it over a very low flame and castor oil and glycerine to it. Keep stirring and water. Cool and bottle it. If desired a few drops of fragrance can be added before it cools down.

Hot Roller

This is the best way to wind the hair on rollers:

  • As with hot-air styling, the hair should first be dried a little then you can begin to put the damp but not wet hair in to the rollers. The remaining moisture will be sufficient to bring the required tension to the hair and also shortens the drying time.
  • Besides the rollers, you will also need a narrow-toothed comb with a handle, to divide the strands and a spray bottle with water to moisten again the parts of the hair that have already dried. It is also useful to have a second mirror so that you can see the position of the rollers at the back of the head.
  • The divided strands of the hair should be narrower than the width of the roller. Only hair that sits exactly on the rollers will gain the required tensions. Each strand should be, if possible, be rolled vertically to the scalp so that the rollers lie exactly over the hair roots and not diagonally alongside. This would also cause the hair to loss some of its spring.
  • The firmer the position of the rollers, the tighter the tension of the whole hair. To achieve this pull the strand a little way away from the head before rolling up; it should not however, be so tight that it pulls.
  • The rollers should be fastened in such a way that there are no kinks. This can occur when the rollers have rubber bands or clip. There is less risk with rollers that are held in place with plastic pins or hair pins.
  • Always insert the pins against the direction in which the hair has been rolled; the end should be anchored in the previous roller, (In the case of the first roller over the forehead, the end of the pin should be on the scalp.)
  • Work from front to back when putting the rollers in, beginning in the middle of the head.

Fitness Tip

Puberty is the time when sexual maturity develops, caused by an increase in sex hormone activity. In boys, rapid growth takes place, the voice deepens, muscles develop, genitals grow and body hair develops.

Beauty Tip

Make sure your lips have been moisturised, and foundation/powder applied. Outline your shape with a lip pencil in natural or a toning shade to the chosen lipcolour. Apply lipstick with a lipbrush. Then blot by kissing a tissue held between the lips, then reapply more colour. Choose colour tones in either warm or cool tones to suit your complexion.
