Condylomata Acuminata - Photo, Treatment and Symptoms of Condylomata

Diagnosis of Condylomata is based on a positive serologic test or discovery of Treponema pallidum on darkfield examination.

Causes of Condylomata Acuminata

The cause of the Condylomata is Exposing the skin to sunlight. Lesions on the external genitalia are easily recognized. On the penis, genital warts tend to be drier and more limited than on the female genitalia or around the anus of either sex. They grow best in the moist genital area. They are raised, rough, flesh-colored "warty" appearing tumors that may occur singly or in clusters.

Symptoms of Condylomata Acuminata

On the vulva, perianal area, vaginal walls, cervix, or on the shaft of the penis, warts can be raised clusters and obviously wart-like, or so small they only become recognizable after application of 5% acetic acid (vinegar) for ten minutes. People with many Condylomata should have a complete skin exam each year.

HPV disease carries the risk of developing a dysplasia (pre-malignancy) and squamous cell carcinoma (cancer of the anal canal). The greatest risk factor for HPV disease is immunosuppression (diseases, such as HIV infection, that suppress the immune system).

Chondrodermatitis helicis is a condition in which small, painful bumps are found on the borders or elevations of the ears. are at higher risk of turning into melanoma as compared to normal moles.

Treatment of Condylomata Acuminata

In children, although the virus is often transmitted sexually, non-sexual transmission is possible, particularly if the child is still in diapers. The presence of genital warts (condylomata acuminata) should raise the question of sexual abuse.
