Skin boils Infection - Symptoms, Causes, Picture and Treatment of Skin Boils

Boils, the most infective skin condition, are the result of deep bacterial infection of hair follicles.

Alternative names : Furuncle and Carbuncle

SKin boils occur in areas covered with coarse hair which are subjected to repeated mild friction such as the neck, buttocks, knees and elbows. A boil starts as a small, red, painful nodule, increasing in size for a few days, and then becoming soft at its top where the skin gives way to discharge pus. Healing occurs, leaving a tiny scar.

A boil usually takes its own course of a week or so in healing and no treatment may be required. But when there are multiple boils, or when a boil becomes large, or when it is on the central portion of the face, systemic antibiotics are required (after consultation with a doctor). If not treated infection can spread to the brain. When the boils tend to occur too frequently, the patient should be investigated for any underlying cause like diabetes, etc.

Boil Treatment and cure

Healing of boils and carbuncles occurs, leaving a tiny scar. A boil usually takes its own course of a week or so in healing and no treatment may be required. But when there are multiple boils, or when a boil becomes very large, or when it is on the central portion of the face then regular medicines are required (after consulting from a physician). If not treated timely then infection can spread even to the brain. If you have been getting crops of boils repeatedly, it is worthwhile to get your blood sugar tested your boils may well be a sign of diabetes.

Home Remedies to get rid of Boils (Furuncle) or Carbuncle.

If the boil is on the nose or the upper lip, the inside of the nose might get inflamed. Boils may sometimes be accompanied by fever. People suffering from boils and pustules should follow the following remedies:

i) Grind neem tree bark in water and apply as a paste.

ii) Grind the bark of the castor tree and the root of biskhapra together and apply as a paste.

iii) Keep your bowels clear and avoid sour or fatty foods.

iv) Eating melons helps the bowels and also cleanses the blood.

v) Take a leaf of the peepal tree, smear it with ghee and apply as a lukewarm bandage on the boil. It will burst in its preliminary stage and the growth will subside.

Fitness Tip

Try to get your spouse and your kids to work out with you. Play catch or frisbee with your kids, make fake microphones and dance to some music, or even run alongside your children as they learn to ride a bike. In fact, a recent study in Canada suggests that if you are active, your children are 6-times more likely to be active too.

Beauty Tip

When shampooing your hair, you need to soak up only once. So why do so many bottles include the lather, rinse, repeat line? According to a few hairdressers I have talked to, the suggestion is designed to get you to use up your shampoo faster.
