Miliaria Rubra - Causes, Picture, Treatment and Symptoms of Miliaria

Miliaria is a very common skin condition in newborns. The pores of their immature sweat glands plug easily, leading to tiny pink bumps or water blisters. Prickly heat or miliaria is a common rash caused by sweat retention. Heat and humidity are factors involved in the cause of miliaria.

Causes of Miliaria

Prolonged exposure to perspiration can lead to plugging of the sweat ducts. This results in the duct breaking open and the escape of sweat below the skin which causes the rash known as miliaria.

Miliaria may be produced experimentally in susceptible subjects by injury to the epidermis (ie. surface layers of the skin). It can be reproduced regularly by occlusion of the skin under polythene for 3-4 days, following which the sweat ducts remain blocked for about 3 weeks.

Symptoms of Miliaria

Common areas include face, neck, under the breasts and under the scrotum. Other areas include skin folds, areas of the body that may rub against clothing, such as the back, chest, and stomach, etc.

Treatment and prevention for Miliaria

Cool baths and air conditioning are very helpful. Cetaphil lotion, available over the counter, is helpful if applied to the rash several times a day. Tend Skin is an effective treatment for this condition. If you have a severe case of miliaria the doctor will give you a prescription lotion to apply to the rash.

Fitness Tip

Never move someone if you suspect spinal injury unless breathing is hindered or the person needs to be removed from danger.

Beauty Tip

Rub a rind of lemon over your face, this will lessen grease and whiten your complexion.
