Dry Skin Care and Treatment - Home remedy and Lotion for Dry Skin
As people age their skin often becomes drier. At first, we may find our hands and feet are dry; later, the arms and legs are affected. Because the face has the greatest number of oil glands (which preserve moisture in the skin), it is usually the last skin surface to become dry. Sun exposure contributes to dry skin. Sun-aged, or photo-aged, skin is rougher and more weathered than skin that has not been exposed to sun rays. Skin also becomes drier in the winter, when the air becomes drier and colder. Dry heat from home furnaces in winter further contributes to dry skin conditions. Frequent moisturizing with the proper kinds of creams and moisturizers help control and replenish dry skin. In general, lighter moisturizers called lotions are fine to use on mildly dry skin, but moderate to severely dry skin requires heavier cream-based moisturizers. Bathing in products that contain such soothing ingredients as oatmeal may relieve some itchiness related to dry skin. Doctors also recommend a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and the oral or topical use of vitamins, such as vitamin E creams. Increasing your daily water intake will help, but is not as effective as topical cream or oil application. Unless your skin is very dry then a lighter moisturizer is recommended for warm months and a more substantial moisturizer for cold months. |
