SPF (Sun Protection Factor) sunscreen - SPF Record, Clothing, Swin wear and shirt

SPF stands for sun protection factor, and the acronym is used to convey how much protection a sunscreen gives. Actually, SPF measures only the amount of sun protection from the burning ultraviolet B rays, and does not measure protection from ultraviolet A rays. (Both ultraviolet B and A rays contribute to aging of the skin and skin cancer.)

The higher the SPF number on the bottle of sunscreen, the more protection there is from the sun's ultraviolet Brays. As a rule of thumb, any sunscreen with an SPF of less than 15 will not provide much sun protection.

For extended sun exposure for more than two hours, an SPF of at least 30 is recommended by most dermatologists. Because SPF measures only protection against ultraviolet B rays, it is advisable to make sure that the label of the sunscreen you buy also indicates it has ultraviolet A protection.

There is currently no ratings system for ultraviolet A rays protection, but one is in the final stages of development.

Fitness Tip

Take a quick watch around the neighborhood before breakfast or after dinner. Even small increments of daily activity can burn body fat. Walking not only tones your hips, legs and lower back muscles, but also keeps you energized throughout the day.

Beauty Tip

If you read beauty magazines, you are sure to come across the word crepey. This commonly used term refers to under eye or other skin that has the texture of crumpled crepe.
