Skin Smoothing - Tips and Tricks

Rough skin often occurs as part of the aging process when skin has had periods of extensive sun exposure over many years. Smoothing our skin, especially our faces, makes us look and feel younger.

When the skin is smoothed, the dead skin cell layer is exfoliated, leaving only the newer cells on the surface. Exfoliating the skin, with nightly use of over-the-counter glycolic and salicylic acids, is an effective way to achieve softer and smoother skin.

Many different brands are available, and it's best to select one that your skin feels most comfortable with. Your dermatologist can also recommend specific brand names.

Facials and some facial masks performed by a licensed aesthetician also leave the skin feeling smoother and softer. In addition, prescription-strength glycolic acid creams and prescription creams like Renova smooth and exfoliate the skin.

Chemical peels and laser resurfacing are more involved procedures that also exfoliate and smooth your skin.
